HP EML E Series tape library
The HP EML E Series Enterprise class tape library provides data protection in your SAN through improved reliability of the backup process while feeling secure that your library can grow as your needs change.

HP EML E Series Product Overview
Features
Scalable to 16 drives and over 440 slots or 8 drives and over 500 slots: The EML E-Series library is built on a modular structure. The number of drives and slots may be increased by the purchase of expansion modules bringing the library to 16 drives and 442 slots for maximum performance or 8 drives and 505 slots for maximum capacity.
Interface controllers protect tape drives from SAN events: The EML E-Series is built on the HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA) which includes the use of interface controllers between the tape drives and the SAN to provide advanced functionality. The interface controllers intercept rogue I/O requests from applications or new servers and prevent those requests from interrupting backup or recovery jobs in process. Additionally, the controllers provide the platform from which to run advanced diagnostics should something go wrong in the SAN.
Remote management: Utilizing HP StorageWorks Command View for Tape Libraries Software for EML or the command line interface, you can access the EML E-Series library from across the room or across the globe.
4G Interface Controller support: HP's new e-2400-FC 4Gb Interface Controller now offers higher performance for Ultrium 960-FC Tape Drive customers. 2Gb interface controllers are also available.
Library partitioning: Library partitioning, standard with HP StorageWorks Secure Manager Tape Library Software for EML, allows the user to logically divide the library into smaller libraries. This function is especially useful when multiple SANs or backup software packages are present.
Easy-to-use touch screen operators panel: The EML E-Series operator panel is intuitive and easy to use. Modeled from the HP StorageWorks Command View for Tape Libraries Software, additional training is minimized.
User-configurable load ports with removable magazines: Loading and unloading media from the EML E-Series library is easy with configurable load ports containing removable magazines. Each load port may be configured as import/export or as a data slot. The removable magazines allow easy transfer of large numbers of cartridges in and out of the library.
HP StorageWorks Ultrium 460 or Ultrium 960 Fibre Channel tape drives: HP StorageWorks Ultrium 460 and 960 tape drives provide superior performance and reliability for your data protection process. Data-rate-matching allows HP tape drives to throttle speed to match the server performance reducing stress and wear on media. Additionally, 250,000 hours mean time between failure at 100% duty cycle meets the requirements of the enterprise customer.
Built in a standard HP Rack: Built in a standard 42U HP 10000 rack, the EML E-Series library fits nicely in the modern data center. Like other rack-mounted equipment, service access is only required from the front and rear of the library. If you determine that additional scaling is not required, the excess rack space may be used for other HP products.
Factory Integrated and Tested with additional drive/slot configurations: Factory integration - also referred to as configure to order (CTO) - is now available with all new EML E-Series tape library orders. Several additional CTO configurations have been added. Must select the EML 103e Base Library SKU (AG104B) and the number of slots; next select #0D1 options to be integrated.
Valuable component of an ILM solution: The EML E-Series Tape Libraries provide customers with reliable data protection and high capacity archival repositories for Information Life Cycle Management solutions. The new Capacity Expansion Module allows the EML E-Series to accommodate over 500 Ultrium 460 or Ultrium 960 tape cartridges for storing, retrieving, protecting and archiving data.

Overview
The HP StorageWorks Enterprise Modular Library (EML) E-Series Tape Libraries provide performance, reliability and investment protection for your data protection needs. With up to 16 HP StorageWorks Ultrium tape drives, the EML E-Series boasts native throughput of over 4.6 TB/hr. Based on the HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA), controllers between the SAN and the tape drives regulate traffic and help to ensure that rogue I/O requests do not interrupt the backup or recovery job in progress. Additionally, the hardware itself is very reliable, designed for 24x7 environments. Investment protection is achieved through the ability to scale up, out and through time. Through the addition of expansion modules, the EML E-Series library scales within the library footprint to 16 drives and 442 slots for maximum performance or 8 drives and 505 slots for maximum capacity. As new HP StorageWorks Ultrium tape drives are introduced they may be integrated into the existing frame further improving capacity and performance.
The EML E-Series Tape Libraries are fully integrated into the HP StorageWorks portfolio through compatibility and capacity points. The EML E-Series tape library is extensively tested in the Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) to ensure that it works in the most rigorous environment. Documentation is provided to enable you to configure, design and implement the best data protection solution for your environment.
