HP ESL E-Series tape library
The HP ESL E-Series enterprise class tape library offers the most complete set of reliability, performance, expandability and manageability for complex storage are network (SAN) environments.

HP ESL E-Series Product Overview
Features
4Gb Interface Controller support: HP’s new e-2400-FC 4Gb Interface Controller now offers higher performance for Ultrium 960-FC Tape Drive customers.
ESL E-Series multi unit scalability now supports up to five connected frames: The ESL E-Series can be managed as a single library with up to 3546 Ultrium cartridges or 3138 SDLT cartridges and up to 44 tape drives using the ESL E-Series Cross Link Kit and Cross Link Expansion Kit. This allows for better utilization of existing tape libraries and easier management and support.
Best-in-class cartridge and Best-in-class tape drive density: In a single frame the HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series Tape Library has the ability to scale from 322 to 712 LTO or 286 to 630 SDLT cartridges and up to twenty-four SDLT 600/320 or Twenty-four Ultrium 960 FC/460 tape drives In a single frame, at 28.4 TB per square foot, the ESL E-Series minimizes floor space while maximizing storage capacity.
Provides a platform for improved backup and restore reliability (ETLA): The HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA) provides customers with improved backup and restore reliability. Based on research conducted by Axios Partners in 2005, customers purchasing an ESL E-Series with ETLA experienced up to 90% reduction in annualized backup failures. ETLA also provides customers with investment protection by enabling an easy upgrade path as interface technologies change.
Simplified installation and SAN integration (ETLA): HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA) simplifies the installation and integration of the library into the SAN. ETLA-based libraries automate and simplify the entire SAN integration process through a simple point-and-click process.
Simplified backup through more automated management (ETLA): HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA) simplifies backup through better, more automated management of the entire library. ETLA-based libraries are self-aware, self-managed, and automatically maintained, to simplify monitoring and maintenance.
Partitioning support: The HP StorageWorks ESL E-Series Tape Library provides the ability to easily partition the library into up to six virtual tape libraries. Partitioning can be used to easily change the tape library configuration to adapt to ongoing changes that take place in the SAN environment.
Mixed media capability: Supports a mixture of Ultrium 960 FC, Ultrium 460 and SDLT 600 tape drives in a single cabinet. This allows customer to easily migrate their library forward as new tape drive technologies become available.
Factory integration The ESL E-Series tape library in now assembled configured and tested at an HP manufacturing site prior to shipment to the customer as a single unit. This significantly reduces the installation time and allows the customer to use the tape library productively more quickly.

Overview
The family of HP StorageWorks Enterprise Systems Library (ESL) E-Series Tape Libraries offers both best-in-class drive and cartridge densities. In a single cabinet the ESL E-Series contains from 322 to 712 LTO cartridges or 286 to 630 SDLT cartridges. In addition, the ESL E-Series has the ability to scale to twenty four drives in a single library cabinet.
The ESL E-Series can be managed as a single library with up to five frames, 3546 Ultrium cartridges or 3138 SDLT cartridges and up to 44 tape drives using the ESL E-Series Cross Link Kit and Cross Link Expansion Kit.
Offered with Ultrium 960 Native Fibre Channel (FC), Ultrium 460 SCSI, Ultrium 460 Native Fibre Channel (FC) Drives, SDLT 600 tape technology, the ESL E-Series offers best-in-class storage density with up to 28.4 TB of native storage capacity per square foot.
HP StorageWorks E-Series Tape Libraries are fully integrated into HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA) that provides improved backup and restore reliability by insulating the tape library from the SAN. This helps to significantly reduce IT resource and time investigating and resolving backup failures. ETLA simplifies the installation and integration of the library into the SAN by providing a simple point-and-click integration process.
ETLA simplifies backup through better, more automated management of the entire library. ETLA also offers remote manageability that allows you to easily configure, manage, and monitor all library components from any location.
The E-Series supports a mixture of Ultrium 960 FC, Ultrium 460 and SDLT 600 tape drives in a single cabinet. This allows customer to easily migrate their library forward as new tape drive technologies become available. The ESL E-Series Tape Library provides the ability to easily partition the library into up to six virtual tape libraries to adapt to ongoing changes that take place in the SAN environment. The ESL E-Series libraries combined with the HP ETLA offers customers with enterprise storage area networks (SAN) superior reliability and expandability, ease of integration, and simplicity of installation and operation.
